How to Care for Your Solid Wood Furniture
Share
Solid wood furniture, with proper care, will outlast almost anything else in your home. Here’s the complete Farmscraft care guide.
Daily Care: Less is More
Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. For light cleaning, a slightly damp cloth works — dry the surface immediately after. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, spray polishes with silicone, and anything abrasive.
Protecting the Surface
Always use coasters under glasses and mugs. Use heat mats under hot dishes. A tablecloth for formal occasions protects the surface while still showing off the wood’s character at the edges.
Seasonal Oiling: The Most Important Step
Oil every 6–12 months using teak oil, danish oil, or linseed oil. Apply a thin coat with a soft cloth in circular motions, let absorb 20 minutes, wipe away excess, allow 12 hours to dry before use.
Protecting from Environment
Direct sunlight causes fading. Position furniture away from south-facing windows. Avoid placing near AC vents or heaters as extreme temperature changes cause cracking.
Minor Scratch Repair
For small scratches, apply a tiny amount of matching wood oil and buff gently. For deeper scratches, fine steel wool (000 grade) in the direction of the grain, followed by re-oiling, restores the surface.
